Congratulations to the residents of Luddenden who have won Gold and also been awarded the coveted title of Category Winner in the Village section at the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Britain in Bloom Awards for 2011. There’ll be a few Calderdale residents with thick heads this morning after the awards were presented at a ceremony last night at St Andrews, Fife.
Brenda McArdle, Luddenden in Bloom coordinator, says: ‘Winning the category and receiving a Gold medal has been absolutely “gob smacking”. We thought the village would do well as there is such tremendous support from the whole of the community. That’s what it is all about, creating a brilliant place to live which benefits not just the villagers but wildlife and anyone who visits.”
In the city section York won Silver Gilt; Whitby took Gold & Category Winner in the Coastal up to 12k section; Shadwell won Silver Gilt in the Large Village section;
Dunnington were awarded Silver Gilt in the Small Town section; Ilkley a Silver Gilt in the Town section; Woodlesford (Leeds) a Silver Gilt in the Urban Community section. Well done to all of the entrants for keeping Yorkshire blooming wonderful.
