A list of the top 101 things to do in England includes thirteen Yorkshire experiences.

From wild swimming in Grassington to a snowdrops walk at Fountains Abbey, a selection of the county’s best attractions have been selected for the “bucket list” compiled for St George’s Day.

The Yorkshire experiences are:

– Afternoon tea at Bettys in Harrogate
– Henry VIII-style jousting at Royal Armouries, Leeds
– Walk among the snowdrops at Fountains Abbey
– Seek inspiration as Wordsworth did at Malham Cove, North Yorkshire
– Go caving in the Yorkshire Dales
– Follow Wainwright’s path from Cumbria to Yorkshire, coast to coast
– Wild swimming in Grassington
– Ride the Settle-Carlisle steam train
– Visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park
– Experience Bempton Cliff’s bird colonies
– Go mountain biking in Dalby Forest
– Eat chocolate in York
– Visit York Minster

Following an appeal by VisitEngland, more than 1,000 nominations were submitted to the tourism agency through social networking sites. The top 101 things to do before going abroad were then whittled down by a panel of high-profile judges.

The Yorkshire experiences were picked by Barney Chandler, a Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London and guardian of the country’s culture and traditions, Michelin-starred chef Skye Gyngell, celebrity bird lover Bill Oddie and Sonali Shah, host of World Triathlon series and London 2012.
