Christmas came extremely early in the Littondale hamlet of Halton Gill (pictured) this year. Despite early autumn sunshine, the isolated community was covered in artificial snow, and a brass band and choir were bussed in, for a Sainsbury’s TV advert featuring Jamie Oliver. Members of the Colne Valley Male Voice Choir, based in Slaithwaite, sang a specially adapted version of All Through the Night for the thirty-second advert. It took eight hours to shoot, with filming not finishing until after midnight. The world of huge supermarkets (and TV advertising) is certainly a world apart from real life in the Dales.
