This week I’ve spent a few days editing the second edition Dalesman’s Yorkshire Dales Visitor Guide which covers the winter to spring period. The hardest part of the job is deciding what to leave out. Not until you start putting down on paper what there is to see and do in and around the Dales do you truly realise what an incredible place it is. One new section for this guide is a run down of the best villages of the area. It started out as a top 10 but the choice got so difficult it ended as a top 30! Even then I know there will be complaints about certain places not being included, There are villages where it is fantastic to live and there are others which are ideal for visitors. The latter is, of course, most important to the visitor, so having something that appeals to the tourist was the priority for us when making the choice. So which village came out on top?  I’m not that daft… the villages appear in the guide in alphabetical order! What’s your favourite village in the Dales and South Pennines and why?

Looking forward to reading your top 30 in your Visitors Guide.
But where would the top places to live be? We’ve run a Village of the Year competition for many years in the past and it’s always a very difficult decision. There are some really active and thriving communities out there.
