Actor Patrick Stewart and I have a lot in common. We’re both from the Heavy Woollen District; both support Huddersfield Town; he’s travelled around the Milky Way and I’ve eaten quite a lot of them. But most importantly we both insist on referring to our birthplace as being in the West Riding. Maybe it’s an age thing (he’s 13 years older than me by the way; maybe time travel has helped him look much younger) but I was pleased with his constant reference to the good old WR in a recent interview I heard. He’ll be back in the county later this month as part of the cast at Monk Bretton Priory, near Barnsley, in The English Mystery Plays – but no one will be able to see him in person. Produced and directed by John Kelly for the Secret Theatre Company, the show features video footage and Patrick’s voice. He plays God… maybe this is something else we have in common – I am, after all, editor of Dalesman.

Thanks AGAIN for the ‘out of this world’ photos on the website, made generously available to view/print, not to mention the articles and the smiles that U bring to those of us, “banished to foreign lands” and starved of REALITY, (yours & others writings & WR humour) – I particularly liked the line about God’s own County!
