There is a strong tradition of wandering poets and Huddersfield’s Craig Bradley is no exception.

Craig, aka That Poetry Bloke has just set off from Lands End and he is aiming to walk the 900 miles to John O Groats in aid of children’s charity the NSPCC.

Craig, who started his mammoth journey on Friday 28 June, will be performing in schools and libraries along the way.

He will be walking with his friend Andy Amos and will have his partner Jackie and sons Ben and Jack following along as back-up team in a 27-year-old campervan.

“I have done many long distance walks,” said Craig,  “including Wainwright’s Coast to Coast and the Hadrian’s Wall Path but this is the big one. I’m up for it!.”

BBC Radio Leeds have commisioned a poem a day for the duration of the walk to be broadcast on the Andrew Edwards Drivetime show throughout the week and on the Johnny I’Anson show at the weekends.

You can find out more about Craig’s walk, and how to donate  on or on twitter @Thatpoetrybloke.
