Richmond will be rolling out the red carpet next week when stars of a new series of The Dales take centre stage at a VIP premiere.

A sneak preview of the third series will be shown exclusively at the Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, ahead of its return to the nation’s screens on ITV later this month.

The 18th century theatre, the oldest working Georgian Theatre in Britain, has just launched a national appeal to raise over £100,000 and will feature in series three.

Welcome to Yorkshire – which has supported the production – is hosting the event attended by stars of the show, TV crew and VIPs from the Dales community. They will be given an exclusive screening of two episodes from the new series.

Both the first and second series’ were hugely successful with an average of four-million viewers watching every week, resulting in a tourism boost for the area.

Series three will see Bradford-born presenter Adrian Edmondson returning to his roots once again to showcase the lives of those who live and work in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

From the Grassington Players preparing to perform the Calendar Girls, a wedding at the spectacular Ripley Castle to a teen biker tackling the treacherous Three Peak Cyclo-cross Race, viewers get a glimpse into the lives of rural communities.

And there’s the return of favourites including Dales farmers Clive and Amanda Owen and their six children as they face another eventful summer on their remote farm in Swaledale.

Executive producer Mark Robinson, creative director of Shiver which is behind the series, said, “As a production company with its roots firmly in Yorkshire, we are really proud to bring another helping of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales to ITV viewers across the country. But there’s so much more than just beautiful scenery in this series – these are real people with real lives and real stories. The first two series of The Dales regularly brought in around four million viewers – and we hope that the third series is just as successful.”

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said, “We are proud to give guests a preview of the much-anticipated third series of The Dales in the beautiful Georgian Theatre Royal.

“We have always supported and encouraged the making of the programme as it has really helped to showcase what we’ve got to the nation – from the terrific characters to the fabulous scenery. We look forward to it coming to our screens once again.”

The 12-part series will air on Monday nights, ITV, from 13 May at 8pm. For the latest information, see
