One extremely cold morning last week I had to head up towards Ribblehead to meet someone at Gearstones. The sun was just starting to make an appearance as I rose out Horton in Ribblesdale, and I caught a glimpse of the scene behind me in the car mirror. The light and landscape was stunning, far more atmospheric than I could ever hope to capture via a quick snapshot on the camera. It was well worth parking up, wrapping up and admiring the portrait for a good ten minutes. What an excellent way to start the day.
And then further on towards Ribblehead, as the full might of Whernside came into view, another glorious canvas unfurled. A swirling mist played around the top of the mountain and for a moment it felt like I was intruding on a private moment between the elements. Fabulous.
