As the last of the autumn colours are ripped from the trees this is not a bad time to look forward to glorious Dales hay meadows, with plans just announced for a five month celebration of the flower-rich fields next summerThe Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust’s Hay Time Project aims to restore 350 acres (140 hectares) of meadows to their former glory by encouraging farmers to revert to more traditional management that allows flowers to flourish. The Yorkshire Dales Hay Time Festival, which will run from May to September, will include a programme of events and activities to help people to understand the meadows’ value in the countryside and to enjoy their beauty and the rich variety of wildlife they support.Activities will range from picnics and guided walks to exhibitions and more specialist plant identification days.
