Moody May skies like this one over the Worth Valley make you realise how the Bronte sisters were inspired to pen their dramas with such feeling and intensity. I was on the hills above Haworth for a walk which will feature in the June issue of Dalesman – on sale this week. The walk is one of a new collection by Colin Speakman, published in his book, Walks Around Haworth, which is available from our website www.dalesman.co.uk
The weather had changed dramatically by this weekend when I paid a visit to Stainforth Force (below). My normally peaceful sanctuary looked more like Scarborough Prom on a Bank Holiday. Nevertheless it was good to see so many people out enjoying the countryside. For some though the day turned sour as the police were busy slapping tickets on cars parked illegally by the old packhorse bridge. I’ve no sympathy for those too idle to walk from the village car park, from where a new path has been laid out with splendid new walling built to guide visitors towards the Ribble.
