One of Yorkshire’s iconic man-made attractions took on a new guise today. That incredible piece of Victorian engineering, the Ribblehead viaduct, became a footpath for the day and I was one of hundreds who took the chance to cross the 24 mighty arches. The event was arranged to help raise funds for some exciting developments at Ribblehead which you can read about in September’s Dalesman. Unfortunately, it was more like January than July and the views I was hoping to capture during this once-in-a-lifetime-chance were well hidden behind mist and rain. Actor Tom Lister (who I’m told plays a character in Emmerdale) cut the tape to declare the walk open; TV weatherman Jon Mitchell, on his left, was to blame for the appalling conditions.
