Tallentire
I have traced some relatives to the Ravensworth area. George Tallentire (born around 1793) was sentanced to transportation at the York Assizes in 1817 and transported as a convict to NSW in 1818. I have been told by someone else that he married a Mary Allison in 1814(??). I have not been able to find any information on the internet regarding George and his family and if he did marry Mary Allison. If someone in the area could help, it would be most appreciated.

Tankard
I have traced my g.grandfather, William Tankard, back to his birth in 1842 in Horbury. He was a stone mason. He married my g.grandmother, Sarah, in 1869 and they had five children. It also appears from the 1881 Census that they adopted two small girls, named Martha and Jane E Mallinson, possibly children of a deceased relative. Could anyone enlighten me please or possibly give me information on William or Sarah’s parents? Thanks in anticipation.

I would like to trace my father’s past. His name was Herbert Harry Tasker and he was a miner in the local pits around the Hemsworth area between 1910 and 1915 but I am unable to find any trace of him in the parish records. He later played rugby union as a professional in the 1920s but again I cannot find any records. He fought in the First World War and was a mule driver in the Second World War. He was in reserved occupation as a pipe fitter in the mills around the Barnsley area. He was married twice – his first wife’s name is unknown and his second wife’s name was Majory Elaine Baylie from Pudsey. She had three sisters – Dorothy, Joan and Connie. Does anybody remember anything about them?

My 7th great-grandfather Joshua Tomlinson and family left Ireland in 1752 from Dublin aboard the  ‘Hitchcock’ for North America.  His father Stephen, from Wicklow, was the son of another Stephen who I believe was from Yorkshire. They were Quakers when they got here and in Ireland but prior to that I am not sure. I think they were part of the Plantation scheme and they were connected with the future Governor of North Carolina.  Any help would be great.

Can anyone help me in my search for Joseph Thurlby? In the 1901 Census he was living with his wife Mary and children Margaret Jane born 1886, Elizabeth born 1890, Richard born 1894, Sarah Ann born 1895, Joseph William born 1899 and Mary Alice. They were living in Crook Co.Durham.
Joseph’s wife Mary must have died, I don’t know when, as Joseph remarried Sarah Jane Alderson on 21st August 1918 and it states on the marriage certificate that they were both widowed. Sarah Jane Alderson had a daughter, Ada May Alderson, who would have been 8 years old at the time of the marriage. Can anyone help me find out what became of Ada May or any of the family as I am truly stuck?

I have many names and dates from the 1790s, and would like to know if anyone is researching same family names from that era, and area. Tilley
Just started doing a family tree and it is so addictive and exciting. Become stuck though with my Great Great Grandfather William Watson born in Skipton (possibly 1857-1877) and married a Catherine (nee Gilbourne or Goulbourn). They had a son William Arnold Watson (born about 1896). They all went to live in Shanghai and when the war was over William Arnold Watson returned to Skipton to visit and met and married Frances Tilley in about 1919 who had brothers and sisters, Edward, George, Elsie and Colin. Perhaps some of these names and details rings a bell with someone? Somewhere along the line there is a Lucy Watson (opera singer) who went to live in Australia.

Tillotson/Wilkins/Shaw
I’m a teacher at the high school “Institution Notre Dame des Anges” in the town of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux in Northern France and doing research concerning the end of the Great War in preparation of ceremonies next year when town and school will celebrate the centennial of the end of the Great War.
A British field ambulance turned our school building into a hospital in october 1918.
In the attick of the school’s chapel, close to the quarters where wounded were tended, inscriptions of 7 British soldiers can be seen that date from 1918. These were most probably patients.
The objective of my research is to gather information about these soldiers, what became of them after the war and to identify family members that will be invited to come to France in order to assist in the ceremonies next year.
One of the soldiers concerned was Lieutenant Dudley Frederick Wilkins (born 1895 in Camberwell) who married Cora Elaine Arnold in Leeds in 1929).
Their daughter Patricia Wilkins (born in Leeds in 1932) married Peter Tillotson (1923-1975) in West Riding, Yorkshire.
Their daughter Heather Tillotson (born in Keighley, Yorkshire in 1967) married Stuart J. Shaw in Keighley in 1989. They had a daughter, Sarah Shaw, born in Keighley in 1997.
I’d like to get in touch with any family member (e.g. Patricia, Heather and/or Sarah) for the reasons described above.
Thanking you beforehand. With kindest regards, Andre

I am searching for the parents and siblings of Peter R Tomlinson, born in Derbyshire in 1918. Relatives may have lived in Yorkshire and travelled to Canada with him. Train
My mother’s maiden name was Train. She lives Hull where she moved to in the 1930s and I can trace the family back through York, Pocklington, Little Driffield and to Woodmansey where the family lived in 1838.
I am seeking the parents of Christopher Train who has no consistent date or place of birth. The earliest date of birth is 1811 in Scotland (possibly Penicuik), other places of birth include Northumberland and various locations in the East Riding.  From my research I believe that his father, possibly George, was from one of the large Train families in either Skidby or Woodmansey.
Christopher married Margaret, née Stork, on 1 February 1836 in Skidby.
In 1871, Christopher’s son George, my great-great-grandfather, is recorded as living at 20, Little Driffield.  His children, George, Jane Isobel, Annie Elizabeth and John, my Great Grandfather, were all born in either Little Driffield or Driffield.

Trueman
I would like to locate Trueman relatives in Yorkshire. My paternal grandmother, who married Thomas Richmond of Sawley, North Yorkshire, was Elizabeth Trueman. Elizabeth and Tom emigrated to Alberta in 1912. Elizabeth was the daughter of James and Ann Trueman who were married in Topcliffe, North Thirsk in 1870. James was employed by the Bishop of Ripon as farm manager for the estate. Besides Elizabeth, James and Ann had two sons, William and Charles. William married Ada Gregg, Charles married Rachel Ward. Charles and Rachel had a daughter Annie who married Alfred Lea. Annie and Alfred lived in Ripon after they sold their farm. I met Annie over thirty years ago in Ripon and we communicated until her death. Any information on the Trueman family would be appreciated, as would information on the Richmond family  also from North Yorkshire.

Tunnington
I have a mystery concerning my great-grandfather. My grandfather was William Henry Taylor Tunnington, born in Leeds in 1864. The 1891 census gives his father’s name as John Henry Tunnington, born in Canada, British subject, living in Bradford, a sewing machine maker born around 1838. His wife was Sarah and children William Henry Taylor Tunnington and Richard Thomas Taylor Tunnington. The name ‘Taylor’ seems to be significant in the family at that time. In 1871 (when William Henry Taylor Tunnington was 7 years old!) he is listed as John Henry Taylor, and in 1861 as John Taylor, sailmaker, b. Canada in 1838, British subject living at 12 Arthur Street, Leeds. Later that year he married Sarah and was living in Primrose St. Leeds, as John Henry Taylor. How did he gain the Tunnington surname and why? If anyone can offer any clues, I would be pleased to hear. Latter Day Saints give them as being from the Birmingham area, not Canada!

Turner
My maternal grandma was Margaret Turner born 1910, one of nine children born in Barrowford near Colne, Lancashire. Her father was John Thomas Turner born 1875 in Burnley, Lancashire, married to Mary Theresa Bamber. I’ve found three other siblings for him. His father was Joseph Turner born in Earby, Yorkshire 1844, married to Jane Ann Greenwood. One of ten siblings born to Thomas Turner born Earby 1818, married to Hannah Cowgill born 1821 also Earby. The birth record for Hannah is in Thornton in Craven’s Parish records; Thomas’ isn’t. He is mentioned in the Craven Herald and is said to have had two sisters – Agnes Turner and Mrs James Brown, we believe her to be Martha Turner. It seems he was also involved the Earby Mount Zion Church (non-conformist) and was a Sunday School teacher. The Cowgill family lived at hill top Farm, Earby/Thornton. We are trying to work out where his birth records may be kept. Any thoughts or leads would be gratefully received.

Turner
My ancestors farmed at Upper Baitings Farm Alcomden from the 1850’s. William Turner moved to the farm from the Earby area. His son Edmund Turner carried on farming after his father retired to Kendal. Edmunds children Joseph, George and Bella farmed at New Greenwood Lea Farm also at Alcomden. Many of the family are buried at Blake Dean Baptist Chapel Alcomden. Upper Baitings may have also been called Higher Baitings Farm in some records. The farm was demolished in the 1930’s by the Water Board who built Reservoirs in the valley. Does anyone know of these farms or has a photo of Upper Baitings Farm. My Uncle Michael Turner made a similar request to the Dalesman in the early 1970’s and was lent such a photo which he sketched. Any information about the Farms or my ancestors from Alcomden would be gratefully received.

Turner
I am trying to find out about my Grandfathers family. My Grandfather John Turner was born 02/06/1888 and I believe he had a brother Richard who could have been born in 1886, and a sister we think might have been Louise. We were given to understand that his parents were killed in an accident, maybe something to do with a train! On or around 1902. They lived in the area of Stanley in Wakefield. John Turner married Hilda Firth in 1913 and they had 3 children, Edna, Audrey and Dorothy, we believe dorothy died as a small infant in about 1917/1918.
If anyone has any information would you please contact me, anything at all that might help solve this mystery. My mother is approaching her 82nd birthday this year and would like to finally know something about her paternal grandparents.

Turner
My family lived in Earby for several generations until my mother left in 1980. Im now in the process of researching my Turner family history in Earby and I’ve now come to an apparent brick wall and wonder if anyone can offer any help or suggestions. Previous response to a different request last year has provided a wonderful worldwide source of contacts and information.

With the use of the Thornton in Craven Parish Registers and the local census I’m sure about the family line back to the birth of Joseph Turner in 1802. Thornton in Craven births record:
Joseph Turner (illegitimate) baptised 13/6/1802 of Sarah, reputed father John Cock carpenter Earby – Date of Birth 7/6/1802

In the 1841 census Sarah (mother) is living with Joseph and his wife Sarah and their family and is aged 75. Sarah’s death (27th Sept 1843) at age 76 in Earby in the Parish of Thornton was registered on 30th Sept 1843, Sarah Turner (daughter in law) being the informant, also living in Earby.

So here we have Sarah (born c1767), however the Parish Registers have no such birth recorded. So far other local registers searched don’t help. I’m convinced that Sarah must have had other relatives in Earby and that she herself was probably born in Earby as much effort at the time would have gone in to make sure she was in her Parish of Settlement.

I would like to find any existing documentation in addition to the Parish records or births, marriages and deaths. I was wondering if anyone has done this before and might know anything that might help me. Earby in this part of Craven where the boundaries have changed being a difficult area as the records which exist are spread in Yorkshire and Lancashire. Has anyone any ideas where I should go to go next, or has anyone done any detailed Earby family history research in this period 1750 to 1800?
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Any information please on the family of Sarah Ann Taylor born in Kilnhurst to Theophilus Taylor and Mary Ann. She was christened in February 1876 so I assume that she was born in the previous six months or so. She was married in Motherwell, Scotland to Alexander Robertson on 6th June 1890. Alexander was a driver of the Royal Scot and I believe the line ran through Kilnhurst, I wonder if that’s how Sarah Ann met him?

I would like to hear from anyone who has the middle name of Ellor e.g. my name is Peter Ellor Taylor. This middle name Ellor has been handed down from my Great Great Grandfather William Taylor b. 1814 in Bolton, and his wife, Maria (Martha) Ellor b. 1814. For an unknown reason his wife’s surname was added into his childrens’ and subsequent descendants’ names. A man of note wss their son, Dr John Ellor Taylor b. 1837 d. 1895 who wrote many natural history books and was the curator of the Ipswich Museum for several years until two years before his death.

Does anyone know Christopher’s parents please?

Tree
George Tree lived in Lower Wortley, Leeds 12 Yorkshire. He married Lily Buckley and together they had David, Marion, Ann, Danny and Joyce. He was my uncle and my most vivid memory is of him coming home from the war wearing the kilt. He had fought in the far east and endured sleepless nights and bad memories of the Japanese. Sadly, he was killed by a motorist whilst crossing Wellington Road.
