Family Quest

Page
Recently on the LDS web site I found a Jeremiah Page, born 3 Feb 1744/5 in  Leeds, York, England to a Joseph Page and also a Mary Page, born 29 May 1749 to Joseph Page at the same location, thinking they are brother and sister.  What makes this so interesting is that our Jeremiah’s first son was named Joseph and family records show that Jeremiah had a sister named Polly or Mary who married a man named Stansfield and LDS records show a Mary Page married a John Stansfield 31 May 1771 in Calverley, York, England.
Has anyone ever done any history on this Page family and if so what are your thoughts on this?
Thank you for anything you may provide.

My great grandmother was Mary Louisa Pape (1877-1958). Her father was Benjamin 1856-1911, his father was Levi 1826-1866. According to stories told in the family this branch originated in France as Jews and had to change their name to Pape to avoid persecution. I believe the Pape family came from Lincolnshire to Yorkshire at some time in the 19th Century. Can anyone help with the history of this name.

Parker
My maternal grandmother was born Rosa Parker in 1863. She was the youngest of ten girls born to George and Emily Parker of Grange Farm, which I think was near Whitley or Grange Moor. She was married to John Edward Smithson, son of James Edward and Harriet Smithson of Huddersfield on 24.12.1885 at Kirkheaton Parish Church. They were master plumbers and I believe both father and son were killed in a gas explosion on 3 May 1902. Subsequently she married John Cawood, born circa 1848, possibly from Leeds. I have no information about the Parkers, Smithsons or Cawoods prior to this. Of the ten sisters, one, Martha, married Mr Beatson and had a daughter, Beatrice. Another had a daughter who married a Mr Sheard. I would welcome any information.

Parker
Firstly I am searching for any descendants of Mr E Parker who was working at (or possibly the proprietor or ralated to the proprietor) of a building firm in Halifax during the period 1918-1923, and possibly earlier/later. In 1917/18 his mother or grandmother was living in Southowram, according to my records.
Secondly I’m searching for relatives of William Henry Parker, may or may not be related to E Parker above, born in 1862. I don’t know where he spent his early years but most/all his working life was spent in northern Chile as a locomotive driver in the nitrates mining industry. He married Emily Gillibrand, an Englishwoman in Chile with her parents and siblings. He and Emily never had any children and returned to England in 1924. Emily died in 1932 (I think) and he died in 1947; both are buried in Bournemouth but no headstone marks their grave.

Parkin, Dobson, Leonard, Duvall
I am researching my mother’s side of the family. My grandfather was Ernest Parkin from Wakefield. He was born at the White Hart Inn when his parents Edwin Parkin and wife Amanda Parkinson were working there. Amanda was the Aunt of EMD Parkinson who owned a funeral service. I also believe that another Parkinson relative was involved with Motorcycle racing on the Isle of Man. My grandfather Ernest Parkin played football for Trinity when the group first started playing and went by the name of Ginger Parkin. I believe he played with Jonty Parkin and am wondering if there is a connection. Also the Duvalls were on the stage and uses that name instead of the family name of Dobson. They toured a lot and had been involved with the Buffalo Bill show when it was in Leeds? My mother said her grandfather was involved with the paintings in the opera house in Wakefield but I have not found proof of that. However some of the namesake mother Olive Adams now Parkin do have the proper connections. My parents grew up in Wakefield and my sister was born there but I was born in the US and have very little I pledge about my family.

I am looking for any Patterson descendants of George Montaigne (Mountain), Archbishop of York in the 16th Century. Keturah’s parents were Richard Mountain & Rachel Thorne, her grandparents were Richard Mountain & Mary Goff. Keturah’s husband was Joseph Shaw Patterson, his parents were John Patterson & Sarah Shaw,
My great grandfather was Richard Mountain Patterson who emigrated to New Zealand in the late 1800’s with his wife Ada Jane Higgs & their eldest child.

My grandfather Henry Mountain Patterson visited York in the 1920’s & there were Patterson relatives living in the area, one aunt was called Aunt Pat, her given name was Daisy Isabel, or possibly the other way round, somewhere in the line there was a Peter Patterson.

One of my wife’s descendants is Rhoda Peacock – born 1826 in Grinton, Yorkshire. She married William Lodge on 24th May 1847 in Manchester Cathedral. Rhoda’s parents were Mark Peacock – born 11th May 1787 in Grinton, Yorkshire, who married Jane Spensley also from Grinton. Family folk-law says that Rhoda was in some way linked to the Beyer-Peacock engineering company in Manchester, England. One of the founders was Richard Peacock – born 9th April 1820 – in Swaledale, Yorkshire. His father was Ralph. Can anyone help to establish Rhoda’s link to Richard Peacock?
Research shows that a Ralph Peacock – born 1782 was the brother of Mark (same one as mentioned earlier). Does anyone have any information about the descendants of Ralph? If I can establish that Rhoda’s father (Mark) and the Ralph (father of Richard) were brothers, then Rhoda and Richard (above) were cousins.

Pearson
I am researching Phyliss Pearson because my parents bought an old book cabinet, and amongst the array of classic novels and old encyclopedias I found a little book called ‘The Scripture Birthday Book’, on the inside cover there is an inscription that reads, “from L Leonard as a parting gift with love to Phyliss Pearson May 23rd 1920” in it there is a number of birthdays written in the pages under the appropriate dates.

From what I can gather from the birthdays and names her maiden name was Marshall and she lived on Sydney Rd, Sheffield 6 and then she married someone with the surname Pearson and moved to Commonside, Walkley, Sheffield. and I am guessing they had a son named Edward Pearson Marshall on 27th May 1937. I think this is their son because his is the only other name apart from Phyliss who has both of their names and also a year with the birthday.

If you have anymore information on this family or know anyone related to these people let me know, just for my own interest and I would love to give this little book back to the rightful owners!

I am looking for information on my paternal grandfather, Charles W Pearson. Charles would have been born around 1900. He was married to Bertha Long in 1924 they had two boys Frank William (my father) and Alfred. They lived in Hull. They were divorced I believe in the 1930s. My dad did not have any contact with his father. I believe that he may have driven taxis at some stage in his life as my dad said that he got in a taxi one day and his dad was the driver.

Pearson/ Hutchinson
Searching for the birth record of William Hutchinson born April 23, 1823, assumed to be the son of James Hutchinson, and Grandson of Enos Hutchinson of East Witton, North Riding Yorkshire. James Hutchinson was on the 1841 Northallerton Census, and appears to have had a blended family. Further research yielded his marriage to Margret Yeardon at East Witton in 1817, and a son James was also born 1817 in Linton at Craven/Grassington and there may be a brother John also from East Witton farm. Margret died in Middleham/Leyburn in 1821. James married again to Ann Pearson at Middleham in 1823. William was born in 1823 in Northallerton per his 1912 obituary. James‘ 2nd wife Ann also died in Middleham in 1826. James married for 3rd time to Mary Bearpark in 1828 also in Middleham. James died in Leyburn 1858 as did Mary in 1883. William left for the states in 1848 and returned home to marry Mary Bendelow (not Brown) at Thirsk in 1849. They took their son Albert (possibly from a prior marriage), and their other son,, Albert who was born on the Caribbean Sea in 1850, to America and settled in Griggsville Illinois.
Note: Enos/Enes Hutchinson resided with Elizabeth Teasdale in 1841 at East Witton.
James also appears to have other children with Mary Bearpark, but again no birth records have been found.

Peat

Hello,

I am looking to trace my Yorkshire family roots for the Peat family in Dublin Ireland which was believed to have been started by the journey from Pudsey, Yorkshire to Dublin, Ireland in the 1700’s by a Joseph Peat.

Joseph went on to set up 2 large mills on the river Liffey to fulfil a contract with the British Army to supply red wool cloth for making military uniforms.

Irish wool has a higher lanolin content (waterproofing) than most other wools due to the higher rain levels here.

Any history of the Peat’s in Yorkshire/Pudsey is most welcome as we plan to take about 50 of our large Peat family to Pudsey and Yorkshire in 2016.

Best regards

Damien

I am looking for ancestors, descendants or any information regarding Bartholomew Pickard (1833-1909). He was born in West Burton, near Leyburn. At this time Bartholomew was a gateman and porter at Longhirst & Old Moor Station. Francis was born in Bellerby, near Leyburn, in about 1832.

Procter
I am almost certain that my family is connected to the Procter’s of Winterburn in Yorkshire. However, despite all our best efforts we cannot find a connection between Thomas Procter born 1702 who married an Elizabeth Pigrim and moved to Rye in Sussex. It is possible that he was born abroad, possibly France, as two of his grandchildren were christened by the King in exiles personal priest in the early 1800s. Was this King Charles Stuart? We don’t know.
However, from personal papers we do know he was connected to some sort of iron production, similar in fact to what the Yorkshire branch was doing at the time. Is this the conection?
If anyone can assist it would be most helpful.

Pryah/Moore
I have little information about my grandfathers side of the family since he died when I was very young. His name was Francis or Frank Moore, born in 1927 in Liverpool. His father before that was Benjamin Pryah Moore born 1884 in Batley Yorkshire he moved to Liverpool and worked as a Dock Labourer. He was born to a John Moore (Birstall) and Leah Pryah (Batley) both born 1842. I believe John was a woolen spinner. John’s father was one Francis Moore 1813 born in Yorkshire (I am unsure where). And mother Martha Walker I believe, born 1812 in Birstall. The only relative of Leah I can find is maybe a John Pryah. I have found it very difficult to find any leads with the Pryah family line. I have reached a dead end so if anyone has any information it would be much appreciated. I know both names are typical Yorkshire names but any info about the origins would be appreciated also. I have never visited Yorkshire but may have to to find out more. Thanks, Katie.
