Does anyone have any information regarding the Oates name from Bradford, Halifax and Shelf between 1695 and the present day? I am advised that there were five families using the Oates surname in 1695 and so there is likely to be a very broad band of information out there somewhere.

On 24 Nov 1856 Elizabeth Osborne of Myton Gate married at Holy Trinity Hull. Her father is named on marriage cert. as “Samuel Osborne – Farmer.” Elizabeth married Mark Ballance and I have plenty of records of the Ballance side of the family but I am stumped by Elizabeth’s Osborne roots. I am hoping she may have siblings. There is a Samuel Osborne born in Bradfield who looks promising as a potential father, but I cannot get any further. Just hoping someone might be able to shed a little light on this. Any leads however small would be most appreciated.
