Blooming marvelous! Dunnington looked a picture today as it prepares for the visit of this year’s Britain in Bloom judges. A deserving finalist in the village section, Dunnington sparkled in the morning’s early sunshine. Dalesman had been given some duff information for September’s magazine when were told it was Dunnington near Hornsea in the East Riding that had reached the finals, so I’m glad to put the record straight and I wish the hard-working locals of this Dunnington, just outside York, every success in the competition.
I took advantage of being in this part of Yorkshire to call in at the nearby splendid Yorkshire Museum of Farming at Murton Park, which is also home to the Derwent Valley Light Railway. I was surprised there weren’t more visitors for a Bank Holiday. As well has being interesting and informative, the addition of a Viking village and Roman fort makes this a unique Yorkshire attraction which deserves our patronage.
