Dalesman Andrew Triggs Hodge MBE has been named Yorkshireman of the Year at the Dalesman Awards 2013.

The hero of London 2012, who picked up a gold during ‘Super Saturday’ was at Utopia, Broughton Hall, to receive the award, which was sponsored by Skipton Building Society. The inspirational rower won gold at both the 2008 and 2012 Games. He is also a double world champion.

Andrew, who grew up in Hebden, was joined at the ceremony by his wife and parents. He said it was a “real honour”. He took to Twitter to say, “From dales to Olympic glory and back home again!”

The Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Welcome to Yorkshire, was presented to Dorothy Fairburn MBE, who has clocked up more than 30 years’ service to the rural economy. She is CLA Yorkshire regional director and a trustee and vice-chairman of Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.

The Young Achiever of the Year Award, sponsored by Yorkshire Bank, was given to siblings Louise and Sam Reed of the Swaledale Cheese Company.

The World of James Herriot won the Yorkshire Rural Tourism Award, sponsored by Dales Holiday Cottages.

The Entrepreneur of the Year Award, sponsored by Clarion, was presented to Cavendish Pianos of Bolton Abbey.

The Agricultural Business of the Year, sponsored by Armstrong Watson, is Keelham Farm Shop.

And the Ian McMillan New Writing Award was presented to Kit Peel of Nidderdale.

A Special Award was presented to daleswoman Hannah Hauxwell.
