Spent Christmas Day with Dancing Bear, Turtle and a Smartie Tube this year. Before you make any comments about too much festive spirit having passed my lips I should point out for those who are unaware, that ‘my friends’ are not imaginary but some of the formations at Brimham Rocks. Along with real friends, who also fancied a Christmas dinner with a difference, I headed a thousand feet above Nidderdale in search of an unusual dining venue. We were not alone – many others shared the need to be outside enjoying this peculiar part of Yorkshire. Unfortunately, it was more of a dismal November day than a crisp, clear wintry scene but this unworldly place certainly holds a fascination in any weather. The weathered millstone grit takes on different shapes from all directions and changing light creates new moods. Happy new year to all fans of Yorkshire.
