Snow remained deep and crisp and even in the Dales over the festive period. Fortunately, the main roads were clear and I was lucky enough to witness some fantastic views around the Three Peaks on Christmas Day. While freezing fog shrouded the Craven valleys, up around Penyghent (pictured) it was an Alpine scene. Snow on the peaks was thrown about by an icy wind, forming a frothy top. And deep drifts piled up against the walls changing the usual jigsaw of fields into one enormous white blanket. The Station Inn at Ribblehead offered a warm welcome and a different kind of frothy top after a short walk by the viaduct. It was all certainly more memorable than this year’s Christmas TV.
