Last week’s Arctic weather meant I had to call off several jobs and up to the weekend I ventured no further than the regular commute from home to work. However, a clear blue sky on Sunday tempted me up into the Dales where I thought a short walk would help blow off the cobwebs… and it certainly did. On the way I took this photo (above) near Horton looking towards Penyghent which only hardy experts or the foolish would tackle in such freezing conditions. Earlier in the week the temperature dropped to -14 in the lower dales. The stream which runs by the Dalesman offices at Broughton Hall froze over and the trees in the woodland looked as though icing sugar had been sprinkled all over them as shown below.
