Every time I drive by this disgraceful piece of vandalism high on the moors above Arkengarthdale I get a little more annoyed. Not only are these abominations just one yard outside the Dales National Park they’re actually in Yorkshire. A tasteful sign announcing Teesdale would have been acceptable, as much of that fine area has always been (and always will be) in Yorkshire. It would seem the Prince Bishops of County Durham wanted to make a particular point about being handed this part of Yorkshire to look after back in 1974. Residents of the area may well pay their rates to a non-Yorkshire council, for administration purposes only, but that’s as far as it goes. I thought that driving over Yorkshire’s magnificent moors was supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable… pass me my tablets please.
