Ben Taylor aka Yorkshire Prose

Ayup’s a phrase i’Yorkshire,
Can be used to say a lot,
Just a simple salutation,
Is summat ’at it’s not!

O’ coourse if tha’s art warking,
And there’s sumdi strolling up
It’ll serve a stranger very well,
To be greeted wi “Ayup”.

But it’s different if it’s a pal,
There’s mooare wahrmth n pleasure,
“Ayyyup owd lad are goa”
Can be uttered at ya leisure.

O’ coourse if tha’s surprised,
An “Ayup” ’ll serve thi well.
Or an “ayup” in annoyance,
Is easy to be telled.

Some pals o’ mine the Sampsons,
Use it start of every statement,
“Ayup Rock, did tha see t’knock on?”
“Ayup Ian, it wo blatant.”

Ayup’s a phrase i’ Yorkshire,
It int just a salutation,
If tha knaws what to listen art for,
Ayup’s got idden information.

Ayup, Ayup’s a phrase i’ Yorkshire,
Can be used to say a lot,
Just a simple salutation,
Is summat ’at it’s not!
