Ashley's sketching masterclass is filmed for Countryfile

Artist Ashley Jackson – well known to Dalesman readers through his popular Yorkshire Sketchbook series – is to be featured on an upcoming episode of BBC 1’s Countryfile.

Ashley took part in filming yesterday at Top Withens, above Haworth, when he gave presenter Ellie Harrison a masterclass in sketching.

The stunning location and great weather allowed him to paint until the last light was visible in the sky, and his appearance on the hit show means he can share his passion for the Yorkshire landscape with a new audience.

Ashley first visited Top Withens in 1966 with fellow artist and friend Stanley Chapman, the haunting location and setting for Wuthering Heights was to have a life long influence bringing school children to the sight in 1972 and campaigning for the preservation of the Yorkshire heritage site.

The Countryfile edition featuring Ashley is due to be aired just after Christmas, on 30 December.
