The world’s a little worse off this week with the death of a great character and photographer in Bill Wilkinson. Readers of our magazines might not have known him personally but will have enjoyed his work over many years. His long career in newspapers and magazines saw him taking photos of royalty, celebrities and capturing the every day life of normal folk. All were treated the same by Bill. He also had an eye for landscapes, especially in the Lakes, and his photos brightened our Cumbria magazine on many occasions. Work always stopped when he came to the office as we listened to his tales from the past and his views of the present; both amusing and honest. He was in his seventies but never retired – he hated the thought of not working – and we have some of his photos due to be published in December’s Countryman magazine. Bill was certainly a one-off and will be sadly missed.
