The Spring Flower Show at Harrogate has earned a regular slot in my diary over recent years. Not just because Dalesman has a tent there (my thanks to all those who popped in to meet us) but also the show is such a good advert for Yorkshire, with local food and crafts very much in evidence. The festival has always been quite rightly proud of its indoor displays but I’ve always thought it lacked the attraction of other larger shows because it had no great visual pull outside the main marquees. But this year there were show gardens on display for the first time. The gardens were designed around a sustainability theme and influenced by Highgrove, in recognition of the interests and charitable work of the Horticultural Societies’ patron, HRH The Prince of Wales. They proved a massive attraction and must surely prompt organisers to expand this section in the future.
