After a tough week it was a relief to be able to get out in the Dales in some glorious early morning autumn sunshine today. Up above Catrigg Foss the panorama took in all the Three Peaks. Penyghent was crisp and clear while in the background Whernside had caught hold of a small cloud. Ingleborough looked imperious. Trees surrounding the hidden gorge into which the beck swiftly plunges, were differing shades of brown, yellow and orange and the scene certainly lifted my spirit. The old railway truck shown in my picture, taken on the path from Catrigg to Stainforth, has been in the field for as long as I can remember. It’s a bit worse for wear now but it’s become part of the furniture.
