I was at the opening of the Coldstones Cut sculpture near Greenhow above Pateley Bridge this week. It’s unusual and controversial but then all kinds of art attracts a great range of opinions, especially when it sits in a much loved part of the countryside. But I think this monumental piece will win most people over, because even if you don’t appreciate sculptor Andrew Sabin’s work you will be captivated by its functionality in offering a unique way to take in sensational views across Nidderdale. Children will see inside a working quarry while grown men can watch in envy at those in hard yellow hats driving gigantic dumper trucks.
