Grassington High Lane

Map based on Ordnance Survey mapping by permission of Ordnance Survey on behalf of the Controller of Her Majesty's Stationery Office. © Crown Copyright.

Length of walk: 3 miles
Start: Grassington
Terrain: Easy. Lots of meadow walking.

Leave the main car park in Grassington, turn left and walk up Main Street, passing the Post Office. Reaching Acorns to Oak, swing right walking in front of the Town Hall. Bear left at the fork and enter High Lane (signpost Hedben). The track soon levels out, offering fine views across the valley.

The lane terminates abruptly where a gate crosses the track, but there's a stile on the left. Maintain the same line across the field towards a waymarker, then on to a signpost situated at the wall angle. Pass through a succession of stiles, always following the same line. Enter Grassington Park (a small woodland) crossing a road (steps both sides).

Emerging from the woodland continue straight ahead, crossing a grassed enclosure - there's a housing development on the site of the former hospital. Ignore a tarmacked path; continue the same line as previously, making towards a tree, before entering the copse beyond.

At the exit point of the copse (don't cross the stile) swing right following the signpost to B6265. Cross a ladder stile, turn right, then at a signpost 20 years ahead, swing left and locate a ladder stile at the bottom of the field. Cross the road to a gap stile (signpost - Grassington Low Mill) then proceed diagonally (right) across the field seeking a stile to the left of three trees. The same course is followed to another stile, then make towards a telegraph pole with waymarker alongside (Grassington). Pass through a gated stile continuing to the left of a new house and another stile.

Cross this then descend a few paces to a ladder stile. At the driveway swing right, then where the wall and the driveway part company follow the wall to pass through a gate. Pass the trout farm then, either follow the lane upwards to the main road and turn left, or take the stile on the left to the car park via Linton Falls.
