From the Editor
One of Yorkshire’s many great
assets is the diversity of its countryside. From the bleakness
of the Pennine moors to the greenery and contrasts of the limestone
Dales; the rolling beauty of the Wolds to the breathtaking cliffs
of the coast; the hidden treasures of the North York Moors and
the vastness of the Vale of York… and I’ve not yet
mentioned even half the region. Yorkshire certainly is a country
within a county. But then, being a Dalesman reader you already
knew that, didn’t you?
This month we cover as much of our
vast area as is physically possible in one issue, and hopefully introduce
you to Yorkshire places and people you were previously unaware of.
But just where does our county start and finish? You can join in
this month's debate on the Yorkshire boundary by emailing your thoughts
to editorial@dalesman.co.uk A big welcome, too,
this month to Barnsley’s Ian McMillan who joins us on a regular
basis for a sideways look at us Yorkshire folk.
And the final countdown to the
2008 Yorkshire
Rural Awards has begun. In the May issue we reveal the shortlist
from which the winners will be chosen later this month.
