Abbey
I am looking for information about my grandmother Lily Abbey (nee Alcock). She lived many years in Hull and was married to Harry (a trawler skipper). She was born on April 24th 1883, married on November 29th 1899 in St John's church Newington and died in 1950. She had 3 sisters Betsy, Sarah and Jane and one brother Ben. She had 7 children Gladys, Lily, Ben, Harry, Les, Doreen and Joan. I would love to know about her parents and grandparents.

Abbott
I am trying to confirm and complete my family tree. I believe my family descend from a William Abbott and Elizabeth Kirby who lived in Kirklington and married in 1742. They had several children, one of which was a William Abbott born 1755 who married a Sarah. They lived in Kirklington but at some stage must have moved to Well. They appear to have had 3 children, one of which was a Charles Abbott, my great grandfather. If anyone has any information on the Abbott's of Kirklington and Well I would welcome their input. Charle's wife was called Ann and came from Easingwold. She was born c 1831 and may be an Ann Dunhill but again I am looking for confirmation.

Acomb
Martin Braithwaite was born around 1770. He married (1) Ann Acomb February 01, 1796 in (also have Jan 02, 1796) Wheldrake, Yorkshire, England North Newbald, England, daughter of John Acomb and Ann Kay. She was born July 12, 1772 (this is a second marriage for Ann Acomb, her first marriage was to John Leng, of Yorkshire). Ann and John Leng's son William went to Canada c 1822. Martin Braithwaite married twice, his second wife was Hannah Ranson and they married August 12, 1827 in (also have Dec 08, 1827 as date) Osbaldwick register, Walkington, England. By banns.

Notes for Ann Acomb: The name Acomb means "the site of the Oak Trees". As well as being a family name in Yorkshire at one time (very few people with the name Acomb are still in the Yorkshire area), it was also the name of a small village to the west of York, England, but today it is part of the suburbs. Acombs can be traced back to the 1600's in the village of Long Marston, which is 4 miles west of Acomb on the Wetherby Road. Joseph was the most common name, followed by Thomas, Quentin, John, William and Henry. They seem to be farmers and Church Wardens. Child of Martin Braithwaite and Ann Acomb is:
2. i. Mary Braithwaite, b. December 06, 1797, North Newbald, England (also have Christening June 12, 1797).

More about Richard Clark and Mary Braithwaite: Marriage: January 28, 1815, North Newbald, England .

Children of Mary Braithwaite and Richard Clark are:
i. Eliza Clark, b. Abt. 1816; d. 1852, Kirk Ella, England; m. William Ransom, April 27, 1839, Welton, England. ii. James Braithwaite Clark, b. Abt. 1826; d. May 20, 1843, Kirk Ella, England. Burial: Kirk Ella, England. iii. George Martin Clark, b. March 08, 1830, (Baptized date) at Welton, England. 3. iv. George William Clark, b. January 03, 1834, (Baptized date) at Melton near Welton, England. v. Emma Jane Clark, b. April 22, 1835, (Baptized date) at Melton near Welton, England. vi. Matilda Clark, b. June 04, 1837, (Baptized date) at Melton near Welton, England. vii. Maria Clark, b. May 26, 1838, (Baptized date) at Melton near Welton, England.

Barbra looks forward to exchanging info with anyone who may have information on the above mentioned family names.

Addyman
I am descended from Thomas Addyman and his wife Maria (Robinson). Maria was born in Thornthwaite. In 1841 Thomas and his family were living in Hole House, Laverton, which is, I understand, near a town called Kirkby Malzeard. I have a newspaper cutting which states that Thomas and his family set sail for America on Good Friday 1845. After surviving a collision with an iceberg they arrived in the US on 25 June 1845. The family settled on a farm near Epworth, Dubuque Co, Iowa, USA. Can anyone tell me anything about Hole House and Laverton or, indeed, anything about Thomas and Maria?

My grandfather, George Calvert Armstrong, was middle one of three brothers. The family were all closely connected with the railways in Yorkshire and Durham.
