CAPTAIN COOK'S SCHOOLROOM MUSEUM

The building which houses the museum was formerly a poor house and charity school where Captain Cook was educated. Next to the road from Skipton to Colne via Thornton-in-Craven is the location of this museum. It focuses upon the lead mining industry prominent at Cononley in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Greenwich Meridian which was established in 1884 is marked by a plate in the pathway. It is the world's prime meridian for a longitude of time.

Originally built at Goole in 1927, but then moved to Spurn point and later to Hull Station. She was decommissioned in 1975 and then brought to Hull marina in 1986. It is possible to explore the ship and see the Master's cabin and the crews' galley. Opening Times: Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sunday 1.30 to 4.30pm.

THWAITE MILLS

A working water-powered crushing mill. The existing building is Georgian, but there has been a mill on this site from 1641. The mill ceased operating in 1975 when a horrendous flood destroyed the weir and removed the mill's power source. Opening Times: Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sunday 1 to 5pm.
